Establishment of Belarusian antimonopoly ministry hailed as pro-market move

MINSK, 15 June (BelTA) – The establishment of the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry indicates that the national economy is ready to develop the market way, BelTA learned from Belarusian Trade Minister Vladimir Koltovich on 15 June.

Market liberalization is the main reason why the government has decided to set up an Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry on the basis of the Trade Ministry. “The decision to set up an antimonopoly agency indicates the readiness of the economy to move on the way of the market,” said Vladimir Koltovich.

The Trade Minister underlined that all the decisions to enable the future Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry to pursue an effective policy in this area had been made in Belarus at the level of the head of state.

BelTA reported earlier that on 3 June Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko signed decree No. 188 to create the Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Ministry on the basis of the Trade Ministry. The new ministry will take away the Pricing Policy Department from the Economy Ministry and the antimonopoly offices and the pricing policy offices from the oblast administrations and the Minsk city administration. The key task of the new ministry is protecting the domestic market by enabling equal competition conditions for all the market participants.
