EIB to invest €200m in Belarusian projects

MINSK, 16 May (BelTA) – Belarus and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have signed a framework agreement on cooperation, BelTA learned from the website of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, following the meeting between Belarus' Permanent Representative to the European Union Alexander Mikhnevich and EIB Vice President Vazil Hudak.

“The agreement means the procedure of coordinating the terms for the EIB activity in our country is completed and now all the three major European financial institutions (EIB, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Nordic Investment Bank) have an opportunity to work in Belarus,” the ministry said.

The parties discussed promising areas of cooperation between Belarus and the European Investment Bank, with the emphasis placed on the development of transport networks, small and medium-sized business, energy-saving technologies, and environment protection. In 2017 EIB plans to inject up to €200 million in Belarusian projects.
