EEU countries invited to take part in Russian import substitution program

ASTANA, 31 May (BelTA-TASS) – Russian President Vladimir Putin invited the EEU member states to take part in the Russian import substitution program as he spoke at the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Astana on 31 May.

“The joining of the member states of the union to Russia's import substitution program is viewed as promising. We invite all our partners to join in and manufacture together equipment and component parts in more than 25 fields,” Vladimir Putin noted.

The Russian leader stressed that the country is running import substitution projects in mechanical engineering, electronic and light industry, and agriculture.

The Russian President also supported Kazakhstan's initiative to hold a conference on establishing cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union. “We welcome the initiative of our Kazakhstani counterparts to hold an international conference on establishing cooperation between the EEU and the EU. The Eurasian Economic Commission should take an active part in its organization,” Vladimir Putin said at the EEU summit.
