EEC official notes growing interest in Eurasian Economic Union

MOSCOW, 14 March (BelTA) – Interest of external actors in cooperation with the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) is growing, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Tigran Sargsyan said, BelTA learned from the EEC press service.

“The EEU foreign trade is gaining momentum. There is a high interest in our association. We get applications for trade and economic relations, first of all, for establishing free trade zones,” Tigran Sargsyan said during a meeting with Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Sergei Lavrov.

The parties discussed topical issues of the EEU development, and the prospects for deepening relations between the EEU and third countries and integration organizations. Tigran Sargsyan said that the primary goal of the EEU is to determine its priorities in foreign trade.

Sergei Lavrov noted that the heads and the prime ministers of the EEU member states have adopted a number of decisions aimed to actively promote these themes in international organizations and to enhance the EEU international standing. “We consider this work quite important,” Sergei Lavrov stressed. “Integration processes are growing in the whole world, in particular, at the regional level. We entirely support the development and strengthening of these processes, provided there is an understanding that it is very important to save the whole global system, including as part of the World Trade Organization.”
