EDB starts harmonizing amendments to EFSD-supported program for Belarus

MINSK, 29 May (BelTA) - The Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) has begun the process of harmonizing the amendments to the reforms program supported by the financial loan of the Eurasian Foundation for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) for Belarus, BelTA learned from the EDB website.

A team of experts of the Eurasian Development Bank, which manages the funds of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD), headed by director of the project team Alisher Mirzoyev visited Minsk on 22-26 May for consultations with the country's authorities on the amendments to the reforms program supported by the EFSD financial loan. During the visit, meetings were held with Belarus Finance Minister Vladimir Amarin, officials and experts of the ministries concerned and the departments of the National Bank of Belarus, and also representatives of international financial institutions.

Consultations were held in accordance with the decision of the EFSD Board of 24 April 2017 that instructed Belarus and the EDB to develop a package of additional measures for the sixth and seventh trenches to improve management of state-run enterprise. As a result of the discussions a provisional list of measures has been developed. It is currently undergoing harmonization in the relevant ministries and departments of the country.

The final list of additional measures will be submitted for the next board meeting slated for late June-July this year.

On 25 March 2016 the Belarusian Finance Ministry and the Eurasian Development Bank (EDB) signed an agreement on providing a $2 billion loan out of money of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD). The agreement provides for allocating $2 billion to support economic policy measures and structural changes of the Belarus government and the central bank in 2016-2018. The economic policy measures and structural changes were approved by the Council of the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development.

The loan is supposed to be granted to Belarus in seven tranches in 2016-2018.
