MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) - Ecuador seeks to sign a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Ecuador's Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces told the media after the meeting with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, BelTA has learned.
“Ecuador has a great interest in signing a comprehensive cooperation agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union. Belarus plays a very important role this regional integration union, including in terms of the development of relations with Ecuador,” the minister noted.
According to her, a meeting with the Belarusian head of state has been very productive. She noted that over the recent years Belarus and Ecuador have advanced in the development of bilateral relations. “We have done a lot to further the relations between the two countries. Belarus has made a big contribution to the development of the oil sector in Ecuador. There is also potential for further work in the field of energy and agriculture,” she said.
Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces stated that there are plans to sign two international agreements during her visit to Belarus. These are the agreement on cooperation in culture and the agreement on VAT recovery for workers of diplomatic offices and consular establishments of the two countries.
The two states have a huge potential for bilateral trade and economic cooperation. “Jointly with the Belarusian minister of foreign affairs and the delegations of the two countries we are going to discuss all bilateral projects in detail, revise the existing agreements, outline future events,” she said.
“As for the international agenda, we shared concerns regarding the current international security situation and emphasized the need for measures to ensure international security. We have common vision on many issues on the international agenda, including the role that Belarus plays as part of the UN fight against trafficking in humans. We also see the need for joint work on the matter,” the minister said.More about Economy
