MINSK, 21 May (BelTA) – Ecuador would like to raise Belarusian investments in order to set up assembly plants to produce vehicles and agricultural machinery, Ecuador's Minister of Foreign Affairs Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces said in an interview with the ONT TV Channel, BelTA has learnt.

She noted that Ecuador and Belarus outlined a number of projects for the future. “We are interested in Belarusian investments into private sector, for example, in setting up assembly plants to manufacture buses, electric buses and farm machines, as well as investments in mining and oil industry. At the same time, Ecuador is interested in signing a trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union and has already made the first steps in this direction,” Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces said.

She underlined that Belarus-Ecuador relations had gone beyond trade and economic cooperation to include cooperation in culture, science, technology and higher education. “Therefore, we have agreed with Belarusian Minister of Foreign Affairs Vladimir Makei to hold a session of the joint commission this year. The commission will be co-chaired by Ecuador's minister of foreign trade. Invitation to attend the session will be sent to representatives of Ecuador's business community who could be interested in establishing or strengthening contacts with Belarusian businessmen,” Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces informed.
