EBRD might help renovate M10 highway

MINSK, 19 February (BelTA) – The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to take part in the project to renovate the M10 highway on condition of public-private partnership, the press service of the Economy Ministry told BelTA following the meeting of Belarus' Economy Minister Vladimir Zinovsky with EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti.

“Suma Chakrabarti confirmed the Bank's intentions to take part in the project to renovate a section of the M10 highway (Russian border-Gomel-Kobrin) on condition of public-private partnership and to expand its participation in the projects to improve water supply and treatment systems,” the press service noted. The EBRD President expressed readiness to support Belarus' in its efforts to strengthen the country's positions on the European financial market.

Vladimir Zinovsky emphasized during the meeting that Belarus seeks to ramp up cooperation in infrastructure projects with the EBRD. The parties noted that over the past four years the collaboration between Belarus and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development advanced to a brand new level.

Belarus joined the EBRD in 1992. The country owns 6,002 shares of the Bank to the amount of over €60 million (0.2% of the authorized capital). The total amount of financial resources provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development in 1992-2014 is estimated at over €1,640 million, of which over a half (€876 million) has been provided in the past four years.

Several large-scale investment projects have been launched jointly with the EBRD. Those are projects in the wood processing industry (Kronospan), production of rolling stock (Stadler Minsk) and beverages (Heineken breweries). The projects to improve water supply and treatment systems in Vitebsk, Slonim and Baranovichi are being implemented now.
