MINSK, 13 June (BelTA) – Direct air service between Belarus and India could be useful. Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich made the relevant statement as he met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Belarus Sangeeta Bahadur on 13 June, the press service of the upper chamber of the Belarusian parliament told BelTA.
According to Mikhail Myasnikovich, direct air service could contribute to more vigorous business cooperation between Belarus and India. “It would truly be a good incentive for expanding our cooperation when coupled with visa aspects,” said Mikhail Myasnikovich. He remarked that not only the Belarusian air carrier but Indian air carriers could enable direct air service.
The meeting touched upon trade and economic partnership with India, including shipments of Belarusian mining machines and electric buses. The sides discussed opportunities for cooperation in oil industry and textile industry. Close attention was paid to cooperation in pharmaceutics. Mikhail Myasnikovich is convinced that the multimodal logistics hub in the town of Bolbasovo, Orsha District, Vitebsk Oblast can become the largest Belarusian-Indian project. It can act as kind of a gateway into the Eurasian Economic Union for the Indian private sector. The site can also be used for trading comfortably with Western Europe. Ways to improve visa formalities for Indian businessmen were also considered during the meeting. “We will work towards enabling comfortable conditions for Indian business,” stressed the chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus. In turn, the ambassador remarked that the logistics hub near Orsha was of much interest for the Indian private sector, particularly taking into account the preferences that investors will be offered there.
Mikhail Myasnikovich and Sangeeta Bahadur discussed results of the recent visit of the Indian parliament delegation to Minsk. The delegation was led by Sumitra Mahajan, speaker of Lok Sabha, the lower chamber of the Indian parliament. The sides expressed confidence that the visit would contribute to stronger Belarusian-Indian cooperation across the board.
