MOSCOW, 19 June (BelTA) – The core equipment of the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant has been installed, BelTA learned from Valery Limarenko, President of the ASE Group of Companies (the general contractor for building the Belarusian nuclear power plant, part of Rosatom), during the Atomexpo forum in Moscow on 19 June.
Valery Limarenko said: “Very serious tasks will have to be accomplished this year as part of the Belarusian nuclear power plant project. We have delivered the core equipment, installed it, and started welding the main circulation line. The welding of the main circulation line of the first unit will be finished by autumn.”
By the end of the year ASE Group intends to finish work on the main safeguards of the first power-generating unit and start one of the most important operations the construction of a nuclear power plant involves — filling the open reactor with fluid. These tasks were discussed with Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko today, explained Valery Limarenko.
The Belarusian nuclear power plant is built using the Russian nuclear power plant design AES-2006 18km away from Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The power plant will have two power-generating units, with each able to generate 1,200MW of electricity. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
