Container transportation of cargo from China to EU via Belarus up 2.5 times in H1

MINSK, 22 July (BelTA) – The container transportation of cargo between China and the European Union via Belarusian Railways went up 2.5 times in H1 2016, BelTA learned from the press service of Belarusian Railways.

In H1 2016, 91,000 twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers were transported via Belarus. “The number of regular container trains between China and Western Europe is on the rise. In the first six months of 2016, 48,900 TEU containers were transported between China and the European Union, up 2.5 times over the same period of 2015,” the press release of the press service reads.

They also added that the efforts to improve the technologies of work at the Brest Severny railway station reduced the time spent on the registration of one overloaded container train from 10 hours to 9 hours, the time spent on the registration of one container train with a normal load to 6 hours. “The work with border and customs agencies aimed at reducing the time of registration of container trains at the Brest railway junction is underway. Plans have been made to reduce this time to 7 hours 45 minutes for overloaded trains and 4 hours 50 minutes for trains with a normal load,” the press release of the press service reads.

The efforts to facilitate railway container transportation are continued.
