Comparable natural gas prices in Belarus, Russia wanted

SAINT PETERSBURG, 16 June (BelTA) – Prices for natural gas in Belarus and Russia should be comparable. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement after the session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia on 16 June, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Kobyakov said: “We do not seek some preferences and minimal prices for natural gas for ourselves. We just would like the gas price we pay to be comparable and close to the gas price our partners pay by the time a common gas market is established.” In his opinion, it will help enable genuine common economic space.

Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev noted that the Russian side is ready to work in that direction. “We don't object. Let's work in that direction. We just should do it faster than we did when we dealt with some other problems in order to prevent these problems from piling up,” he said.

Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov met with Prime Minister of Russia Dmitry Medvedev for negotiations and took part in a session of the Council of Ministers of the Union State of Belarus and Russia in Saint Petersburg on 16 June. Andrei Kobyakov also met with Saint Petersburg Governor Georgy Poltavchenko.
