Call to use uniform rules in food surveillance in EAEU

MINSK, 19 March (BelTA) – The food surveillance systems in the EAEU should work in accordance with the uniform rules, Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) Tigran Sargsyan said in an interview with the Belarus 1 TV channel on 18 March, BelTA has learned.

“We must fundamentally work towards the coordinated policies and harmonization of general legislation so that the supervision systems will operate to the uniform rules. “The issue of ‘milk debates' that exists today has been included in the agenda of the session of the board. Relevant materials have been sent to all countries. Thus they will get familiar with the documents, and send the commission their proposals and comments,” Tigran Sargsyan said while commenting on the disputed and painful issue of the single food market that regularly emerges in the EAEU.

The chairman of the EEC Board reported that Russia has submitted the documents that showed violations in the order of interaction with colleagues. The Russian side is expected to clarify the violations.

Asked about the readiness to take part in the discussion of the situation, Tigran Sargsyan stated: “My position is that the powers of the supranational body in the area need to be enhanced so that the countries know that inspections will be systematically carried out to monitor the implementation of the law enforcement norms. When we have such an instrument, we will be able to address a lot of issues in advance.”

In his opinion, the inspection could produce an objective analysis of the situation and help avoid conflicts. "I think that in a year or two the board of the new convocation will have such powers,” added Tigran Sargsyan.
