Call for radical changes in Belarus' industrial policy

MINSK, 23 May (BelTA) – Belarus needs radical changes in the industrial policy, BelTA learned from Boleslav Pirshtuk, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus, during the first Belarusian-German forum Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industrie 4.0): Digital Transformation of the Economy on 23 May.

The deputy head of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament noted that it is now time for radical changes in the Belarusian industrial policy. In his words, for many years Belarus has been quite dynamically developing despite external factors. The country's industrial component, which was described as the assembly shop of the Soviet Union in the past, has its own fair share of peculiarities. “The share of the production sector is still the largest one in our GDP,” noted Boleslav Pirshtuk.

The MP said: “The Belarusian economy is an open one. We have to export up to 60% of what we make. This is why it is important for us to stay in shape and keep up technical standards in globalization conditions.” In his opinion, this is why Belarus is very interested in getting Europe's best economy — the German one — to demonstrate its own practices. Quite many positive Belarusian-German projects have already been implemented in Belarus. “In essence we are upgrading the main enterprises keeping in mind German quality and German technologies, which boast high standards and a high competitive ability,” noted Boleslav Pirshtuk.

The deputy chairman of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of Belarus also pointed out that Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko had given instructions to diversify the economy. “We should reach the European Union with a 30% share of our own products by the end of the five-year term. It can be done only through smooth joint work and the penetration of the large European Union market,” said the MP. Boleslav Pirshtuk assured that members of the parliament take a most active part in this work. “The concept for developing the law on industrial policy has been discussed for years. It is now time for us to radically change our own legislation,” he was convinced. In his opinion, the Industry Ministry and other ministries relating to the real sector of the economy should change their approaches to work. “We need a clear-cut strategy, a good vision of our prospects. We should focus on achieving maximum results,” concluded the deputy chairman of the lower chamber of the Belarusian parliament.

The first Belarusian-German forum Fourth Industrial Revolution (Industrie 4.0): Digital Transformation of the Economy is supposed to present the experience of Germany and several German companies in implementing Industrie 4.0 projects and the digital transformation of the economy.
