Book on public finance reform in Belarus to be published in English

MINSK, 12 February (BelTA) – The book Financial Diet: Public Finance Reform in Belarus published in Russian will be translated into English, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha said during the presentation of the book at the 23rd Minsk International Book Fair, BelTA has learned.

“The book is now available in Russian. The next step will be to publish its English-language version, which will happen in the near time,” Sanaka Samarasinha noted.

He pointed out that Ben Slay, Senior Economist at UNDP's Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, contributed to the book by giving comments and recommendations.

“When asked what the book is about, Ben Slay said that it is about how to adapt to the changing environment without damaging what has already been achieved in Belarus. The book is very useful, interesting, practical, and pragmatic. It presents a point of view shared by the UNDP. Ben Slay said that if the UNDP had been working on this book, we would not have done a better job,” Sanaka Samarasinha stressed.

The book is not merely a literary work but a useful scientific research for Belarus, especially in the present-day situation characterized by financial turbulence.

The writing team comprised twenty economic experts from Belarusian State Economic University, the Institute of Economics of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus, the Belarusian Economic Research and Outreach Center (BEROC), the IPM Research Center, Arizona State University, Britain's National Institute of Economic and Social Research, and the German Economic Team Belarus. Aide to the Belarus President Kirill Rudy is science editor of the book.
