Belarusian woodworking industry modernization reduces import, improves product quality

MINSK, 14 September (BelTA) – The modernization of the woodworking industry has allowed increasing the quality of products and reducing import, BelTA learned from Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin during the international expo and fair Furniture 2017.

The official said: “A lot of work has been done in Belarus in the last five years to retool and modernize all the operational woodworking enterprises. It has allowed us to reach brand new quality standards, reduce the volume of import, and develop the manufacturing of all kinds of products.”

In his words, Belarusian furniture is well-known abroad, Belarus is viewed as “a furniture power”. Today Belarusian companies offer the entire range of products that the housing construction industry may need. There are over 600 furniture manufacturers in Belarus that make products using Belarusian raw materials. “Any consumer will be able to find something to their liking during the expo,” believes the Deputy Prime Minister.

The expo and fair Furniture 2017 features home furniture, furniture for banks, offices, auxiliary premises, furniture for recreation and tourism, furniture for bars, cafes, restaurants and casinos, trading houses as well as furniture components and fittings, fabrics, lighting systems, all kinds of materials, and hardwood. Visitors can also see varnishes and paints, furniture care solutions, and all kinds of interior design products.

Manufacturers of furniture and its components, wholesale and retail traders from Belarus, CIS and non-CIS states, self-employed businessmen take part in the expo. Contracts on next year's sales are expected to be signed during the expo.

The Furniture 2017 expo has been organized by the exhibition company BelExpo of the Belarus President Property Management Directorate in association with the Trade Ministry, the Belarusian timber, woodworking, pulp and paper industry concern Bellesbumprom, the Belarusian National Union of Consumer Societies (Belkoopsoyuz), and the Association of Woodworkers and Furniture Makers of Belarus.

The Furniture 2017 expo will stay open in the Football Arena, Minsk through 17 September.
