Belarusian Tax Ministry pleased with agreement with Uber

MINSK, 16 March (BelTA) – The Belarusian Tax and Duties Ministry is satisfied with cooperation with the taxi service company Uber, BelTA learned from Larisa Shibko, head of the Ministry's Central Office for control over excisable goods, gambling business, and digital systems for merchandise sale control.

The official said that the signing of the agreement with Uber met a strong response from the general public. A lot of skepticism was expressed. Questions were asked such as whether Uber operates legally and whether Uber pays taxes. “We have analyzed all these questions since controlling the observance of tax legislation is our job. The laws also apply to foreign commercial entities, which operate in Belarus. We have signed an agreement with Uber B.V. Company in order to interact with each other. We wanted their work to be transparent and productive. We wanted the company to feel confident on the Belarusian market,” said the representative of the Tax and Duties Ministry.

Larisa Shibko remarked that the Tax and Duties Ministry is satisfied with cooperation with Uber for now. “We are going to analyze results of the agreement's fulfillment,” she said.

The Belarusian Tax and Duties Ministry and Uber B.V. signed an agreement on cooperation in November 2016. The agreement is supposed to improve tax control effectiveness while enabling conditions conducive to a healthy competitive environment and the transparent operation of the market of transport services, including those provided with assistance of information technologies.
