Belarusian students undergo training at Kalinin NPP

MINSK, 26 June (BelTA) – Belarusian students have completed a training course at the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant, BelTA learned from the Russian concern Rosenergoatom.

“Fourth-year students of the Belarusian National Technical University and third-year students of the Belarusian University of Informatics and Radioelectronics received on-the-job training at the Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant on 13-22 June. The training was requested by the Belarusian side,” the company informed.

During the two-week course, the students were trained in the following disciplines: safety culture, Rosatom's manufacturing system, operating modes of power-generating units, operation and technical maintenance of the NPP's electrical systems and equipment, electric system of BOP needs, automatic control systems, control and instrumentation, radiation safety, fire prevention, turbine automatic control and protective systems, water chemistry conditions.

The students could test their knowledge using full-scale simulators. These are unique software and hardware complexes that allow simulating all kinds of modes – from normal operating mode to the state of emergency. According to the supervisor of the students, leading instructor of the training center of the Kalinin NPP Igor Salomasov, there are three full-scale simulators for four active power-generating units. They precisely simulate real operation of the power-generating units and are used to train and maintain a high level of qualifications of the personnel of the Kalinin NPP and specialists of other nuclear power plants from Russia and abroad.

The Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant is owned and operated by Rosenergoatom. It is located in the northern part of Tver Oblast near the town of Udomlya. It has four power-generating units (VVER-1000) with the gross capacity of 1,000 MW each.
