Belarusian steel mill BMZ cranks up pipe output by 70%

GOMEL, 18 January (BelTA) – In 2017 the pipe rolling division of the Belarusian steel mill BMZ increased its output by 70% in comparison with 2016, the company's press service told BelTA.

In 2017 the BMZ pipe rolling division made 141,801 tonnes of hot-rolled seamless pipes setting a new record for the last ten years. In 2017 BMZ shipped the pipes to 126 customers in 19 countries across the globe. The main importers included Russia, the USA, Italy, Germany, and Poland.

The output increase is attributed to an extensive order portfolio and the smooth work of the company's personnel.

As far as the varieties of the pipes are concerned, in 2017 pipes for the oil and gas industry were in demand as well as pipes intended for consequent conversion and for the mechanical engineering industry. The pipe rolling division turned out 432 combinations of pipe sizes and profiles in 2017.

Apart from that, the division worked hard to improve and confirm the quality of its products. A number of internal audits and external audits were arranged. The source mentioned the audit carried out by the German civil engineering products certification agency TUV NORD Systems and the audit carried out by the American Petroleum Institute to make sure the local quality management system is compliant with the API Q1 standard and the ready-made products are compliant with the API 5L and API 5CT standards.

Established in 1984, BMZ is the managing company of the holding company Belarusian Metallurgical Company. BMZ's pipe rolling division was commissioned in July 2007. Since then it has made over 1 million tonnes of pipes, including those intended for the oil and gas industry and therefore meeting increased quality standards.
