Belarusian road carriers plan to branch out into Iran

MINSK, 18 May (BelTA) – Belarusian road carriers plan to enter Iran's market, Belarus' Deputy Transport and Communications Minister Alexander Shishko said during the opening ceremony of the 22nd exhibition of the Association of International Road Carriers (BAMAP) on 18 May, BelTA has learned.

“Despite all the obstacles we have dealt with recently, Belarusian road carriers managed to find the means and possibilities to update their fleet, get a foothold in the markets and explore new ones. Literally the other day we were invited to set up a joint Belarus-Iran commission,” Alexander Shishko noted.

He also recalled that Belarus-China cooperation has gained momentum. “Recently Belarus and China have signed an agreement on the promotion of freight transportation. We have also worked out a draft agreement on the promotion of international car shipping with China. We plan to sign it soon. There is plenty of work ahead,” the deputy minister underlined.

He stressed that Belarus' Transport Ministry is busy enhancing shipping conditions for freight carriers. “We have prepared a number of amendments to Belarus' legislation in order to mitigate the liability of road carriers. We have also elaborated a decree on updating the Belarusian fleet with Euro 6 vehicles along with many other regulatory acts to protect the market that we have set up together with the BAMAP,” Alexander Shishko remarked.

Minsk is playing host to some special events marking BAMAP's 25th anniversary on 18-19 May. They include the 22nd BAMAP's exhibition and the conference “Innovations in international car shipping. Experience and prospects.”
