Belarusian production sector out of recession

MINSK, 30 May (BelTA) – The Belarusian production sector is now out of the recession. Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Vladimir Semashko made the statement during the plenary session “Belarus — the place of integration of the West and the East. Future development of the industrial potential of the republic” within the framework of the Belarusian Industrial Forum on 30 May, BelTA has learned.

“I can state with confidence that the production sector is recovered from the recession and is now steadily growing. In 2017 the industrial output growth rate totaled 106.1%. In January-April 2018 the figure reached 108.8%. We hope that we will finish this year with the same rate,” said Vladimir Semashko.

In his words, modernized branches of the processing industry — automobile engineering, metallurgy, petrochemical industry, woodworking, and light industry — contribute a lot to the development of the production sector. “Work to master car production is going well. We are at the beginning of the road but the first steps inspire optimism about the potential of the car making industry. The first shipments met a strong interest on the part of the European Union. The development of electric transport has a great future,” noted Vladimir Semashko.

The deputy prime minister of Belarus pointed out that woodworking companies develop rapidly thanks to their own raw materials base. This industry can be cited as an example of the successful implementation of the government strategy on upgrading manufacturing enterprises. The sum of export by the forestry industry has increased by 1.9 times since 2007, the time when the retooling campaign began.

“In my opinion, the future of the production sector will be based on the introduction of advanced technologies and the manufacturing of new competitive products. All the conditions are available for it,” concluded Vladimir Semashko.

The Belarusian Industrial Forum in the Minsk Indoor Football Center will last through 1 June. The forum's program features over 50 events. The 21st international expo TechInnoProm is the central one. It will focus on the fourth industrial revolution (Industry 4.0). TechInnoProm's business program contains 23 specialized events. The large-scale ones are the international symposium Technologies, Equipment, Quality and the international applied science symposium Prospects of Development of Additive Technologies in the Republic of Belarus.
