Belarusian nuclear power plant's link to power grid nearly ready

MINSK, 4 October (BelTA) – The implementation of the project to connect the Belarusian nuclear power plant to the national power grid is nearing completion, BelTA learned from the Belarusian national electric company Belenergo.

According to the source, 17 stages of the project have been carried out and another six have yet to be implemented.

The system to connect the Belarusian nuclear power plant and the national power grid is being built in line with the contract signed by the Grodno Oblast electric company Grodnoenergo and North China Power Engineering Company (NCPE). The contract was signed on 8 June 2012 and costs $340.86 million.

As part of the project to build the power transfer system new 330kV overhead power lines as long as 1,032.5km need to be built while 672.4km of existing 110-330kV power lines need to be reconstructed. Four power substations have to be reconstructed and the new substation Postavy needs to be built. A second 330kV transformer needs to be installed in the Smorgon substation.
