Belarusian nuclear power plant to get nuclear fuel in December

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – Nuclear fuel is scheduled for delivery to the Belarusian nuclear power plant in December, BelTA learned from Viktor Brich, Deputy Director of the representative office in Belarus of the Russian engineering company Atomstroyexport, during the roundtable session held as part of the 23rd Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum to discuss nuclear energy industry development prospects.

The executive said: “The construction of the Belarusian nuclear power plant proceeds dynamically. We intend to deliver the fuel in December 2018. The Belarusian nuclear power plant will be commissioned within the timeframe specified by the contract.”

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006 near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first power-generating unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020. “The design being implemented in Belarus takes into account all the requirements and recommendations of international organizations regulating nuclear industry relations,” stressed Viktor Brich.
