Belarusian nuclear power plant readiness details revealed

MINSK, 9 October (BelTA) – The degree of readiness of the first unit and the second unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant was revealed by Vitaly Malishevsky, Deputy Chief Engineer, Head of the Operation and Technology Department of the state enterprise Belarusian Nuclear Power Plant, during a roundtable session held as part of the 23rd Belarusian Energy and Ecology Forum on 9 October, BelTA has learned.

According to the source, the general construction work is nearing completion. Equipment installation is in full swing. The reactor unit of the first power-generating unit has been assembled. The first unit's main circulation line has been welded. Its polar crane has been installed as well as the crane for the equipment airlock. Technological systems are being installed. Individual equipment tests and trials are in progress. The turbine unit and the turbine's condensers have been installed in the building of the first power-generating unit. Work continues to install pipelines for fresh steam, condensate, and pump equipment. The first unit is supposed to undergo hydraulic tests this year. The unit needs to be prepared to receive nuclear fuel. General construction work is in progress on the second power-generating unit. The installation of thermal technology and electric technology equipment has begun.

All the construction and installation work the 330kV switchgear assembly requires has been done. System tuning is in progress now. “One can say the construction of the nuclear power plant has reached the preparatory stage of the startup and commissioning work. This work proceeds at top-priority installations – the 330kV switchgear assembly, the automatic fire-extinguishing system, the gas supply system, the technical water supply system, the wastewater disposal system, and other ones. Once they have passed complex testing, we will be able to power on the site, enable the flow of technical water and chemically purified water, enable wastewater disposal and turn on reliable fire extinguishing measures,” noted Vitaly Malishevsky.
