Belarusian nuclear power plant construction workers promised jobs abroad

MINSK, 19 June (BelTA) – The specialists, who are now busy building the Belarusian nuclear power plant, will be in demand at cutting-edge construction sites of the world nuclear industry, BelTA learned from Aleksei Likhachev, Director General of the Russian state nuclear industry corporation Rosatom, on 19 June.

Thousands of people are employed to build the Belarusian nuclear power plant, with the number of construction workers peaking at 6,000-7,000 people. The number of Belarusian specialists is roughly equal to the number of Russian ones. “The team of professional construction workers, who are building a high-technology facility, will be in demand because we have a lot of construction projects ahead of us in the Commonwealth of Independent States and non-CIS states. The existing construction team has very good prospects of getting employed for cutting-edge construction projects of the world nuclear industry,” believes Aleksei Likhachev.

He reminded that the Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built using the Russian standard Generation III+ design AES-2006. Rosatom intends to expand cooperation with Belarus not only in nuclear energy industry but in non-energy uses of nuclear competences such as nuclear medicine, research projects, and so on.

The Belarusian nuclear power plant is being built near Ostrovets, Grodno Oblast. The first unit is scheduled for commissioning in 2019, with the second one to go online in 2020.
