Belarusian MTZ to sell laser-scanning tractors to Egypt

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) – The tractors the Belarusian company Minsk Tractor Works (MTZ) makes for Egypt will be fitted with a laser-scanning system, BelTA learned from the company's website.

According to the source, the Belarusian tractors will have to work with a precision farming system in Egypt and the precision farming system relies on laser scanning. The agreement to sell laser-scanning tractors was reached when an Egyptian government delegation visited MTZ.

Laser technologies are used to precisely delimit fields and create the necessary incline for artificial irrigation in desert areas. The systems are very important for Egypt because they can greatly reduce water consumption, a representative of the Egyptian Agriculture Ministry noted during the talks.

MTZ Director General Fyodor Domotenko said that Belarusian tractors will have no problems working with equipment that supports laser scanning. “We can do anything together. The scientific and technological base of Minsk Tractor Works allows resolving any problem,” stressed the executive.

At present the share of Belarusian tractors made by MTZ on the Egyptian market is estimated at about 20%. Egypt is now interested in expanding its tractor fleet with powerful tractors with the engine output of 200 horse powers and above.

The delegation of the Egyptian government included representatives of several ministries and agencies. The delegation was led by Military Production Minister Mohamed El-Assar. The official said: “We've made sure that MTZ is a large modern factory that maintains high manufacturing standards.” The Military Production Minister also noted that a delegation of representatives of Belarusian industry enterprises will visit Egypt soon.
