Belarusian medications sell well in Syria

MINSK, 12 July (BelTA) – The export of Belarusian medications to Syria may exceed $1.2 million this year, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Syria Alexander Ponomarev told BelTA.

The ambassador said: “We sell a broad choice of medications to the friendly country of Syria. Belmedpreparaty Company started shipments three years ago. Other companies joined in later. TriplePharm Company has done very well so far this year. Export reached $600,000 in H1 2018. There are reasons to believe that our export to Syria will exceed $1.2 million this year.”

Syria is a promising target market for Belarusian pharmaceutical companies, noted the ambassador. Syrian partners are interested in Belarus-made products, partially because the Syrian pharmaceutical industry is virtually destroyed. Domestic production can satisfy only 10% of Syria's demand for medications. This is why Syria counts on the holding company Belpharmprom and future interaction with Belarusian pharmaceutical companies.

According to Alexander Ponomarev, Syrians know the Made in Belarus brand, including pharmaceutical products bearing this brand. Belarusian medications are also delivered to Syria as part of the humanitarian effort.

A national seminar on promoting Belarusian medications and medical services abroad took place at premises of Belmedpreparaty Company on 12 July. Representatives of Belarusian diplomatic missions abroad took part in the seminar.
