MOGILEV, 11 October (BelTA) – Belarusian companies signed contracts for the delivery of $123 million worth of food to Russia during the fifth Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia in Mogilev on 11 October, BelTA has learned.

The documents were signed as a result of the panel session on the experience, problems, and prospects of the agrarian policy in the Union State of Belarus and Russia. The session took place in the Mogilev State University of Food Technologies. The largest contracts were signed by the Grodno meat-packing plant (RUB500 million), the Dyatlovo cheese-making plant (Cheese Country trademark), and Verkhnedvinsk Cheese and Butter Making Plant. The latter two signed contracts to the tune of RUB300 million each.

Over 70 people took part in the panel session. They discussed priority avenues in the development of agribusiness in the Union State of Belarus and Russia such as the formation of innovative animal husbandry systems in Belarus and Russia, the creation of breeding and genetics centers, the development of a system of agricultural machines and using the system to embrace modern resource- and energy-saving technologies in agribusiness, ways to improve the quality of agrarian education, the sharing of the best practices, and the joint training of personnel for agriculture.

The panel session passed a resolution, which suggests pooling Belarusian and Russian efforts in the above-mentioned areas in order to resolve the problem of import substitution in animal husbandry and mechanical engineering and in order to bolster the competitive ability of domestic agribusiness products.
