Belarusian-Chinese ventures to produce beef, mushrooms in Mogilev Oblast

MOGILEV, 20 July (BelTA) – Belarusian-Chinese ventures will be set up in Mogilev Oblast to produce beef and mushrooms. The relevant documents were signed during the meeting of Mogilev Oblast Governor Vladimir Domanevsky and a delegation of China's Jiangsu Province led by Vice Governor Ma Qiulin on 20 July, BelTA has learned.

Jiangsu Overseas Group Corporation signed contracts with Mogilev Meat-Packing Plant (production and delivery of beef to China) and the Krichev District administration (mushroom farming in Krichev District).

During the meeting it was noted that promising investment projects will begin the advancement of mutually beneficial cooperation to a brand new level: the transition from trade to manufacturing cooperation in the production sector and the establishment of high-tech joint ventures with a view to selling products to third countries.

According to Vladimir Domanevsky, trade and economic relations between Mogilev Oblast and Jiangsu Province are below the potential of the two regions for now despite positive dynamics. “Today we have all the capabilities for increasing mutual trade, advancing investment cooperation and relations in humanitarian affairs,” said the Mogilev Oblast governor. “It is also necessary to pay close attention to tourism. I am convinced that in the next 2-3 years tourist traffic between our regions will grow considerably. The signing of the memorandum of cooperation between the Sport and Tourism Office of the Mogilev District Executive Committee and one of China's leading travel agencies Tuniu confirms it.”

Vladimir Domanevsky suggested working on other promising avenues of cooperation in detail such as petrochemical industry, civil engineering, mechanical engineering, alternative energy generation, farming and processing of agricultural products. He expressed interest in studying and using China's experience in order to implement components of smart cities in the region with a view to developing infrastructure and creating a more comfortable living environment.

In turn, Ma Qiulin noted the importance of stepping up contacts between regions, cities, and representatives of the private sectors. “We should do everything possible to advance mutually beneficial trade, economic, and investment cooperation. We should enable the necessary conditions and accelerate the implementation of the projects that have been started. We should sketch out promising avenues. We have the necessary potential for our mutual relations to produce serious results and become an example of development of interregional cooperation soon,” stressed the Jiangsu Province vice governor.

The sides agreed to set up a joint working group and work out approaches to exploring the cooperation avenues, which have been sketched out, so that concrete agreements on new joint projects can be reached when the Mogilev Oblast delegation visits China in autumn.
