Belarusian Brest, Dutch Coevorden to implement logistics project

BREST, 30 July (BelTA) – The Belarusian city of Brest and the Dutch city of Coevorden intend to implement a joint logistics project, BelTA learned from Coevorden Mayor Bert Bouwmeester.

The Coevorden mayor said: “Brest is a beautiful and clean city. I see that it has developed quite well in the last few years. We are getting more joint projects. We are now working on ways to expedite container transportation between Brest and Netherlands. Our entrepreneurs see good opportunities in transporting their freight by rail.”

The Dutch side relies heavily on transportation by sea. Transportation by rail is viewed as an alternative, which will make freight delivery in the eastern direction cheaper. Brest may become the point where containers will be transshipped. The Coevorden mayor discussed the possibility as he visited the company SOOO Brestvneshtrans.

Brest First Vice Mayor Vadim Kravchuk noted: “Representatives of Netherlands are strongly interested in implementing the project for transshipping freight in Brest and delivering it to Russia and China. Ways of cooperation with Brestvneshtrans are being discussed now because the company has a lot of space where up to 3,000 containers can be stored.”

The Netherlands delegation also met with representatives of the Brest State Technical University. The sides discussed possibilities of cooperation regarding the introduction of the Digital Government program.
