Belarusbank, China UnionPay team up

MINSK, 22 March (BelTA) – Belarusbank and UnionPay International have signed an agreement to organize the servicing of UnionPay cards in Belarus, the Belarusbank press service told BelTA.

The press service explained that Belarusbank and the world's largest payment system China UnionPay represented by its daughter enterprise UnionPay International had signed a partnership agreement on organizing the use of UnionPay payment cards in Belarusian retail outlets and service providers, which use Belarusbank's acquiring services. The project is supposed to be implemented in 2019.

The document was signed in the UnionPay International HQ in Shanghai on 22 March 2018. The document was signed by Deputy Chairwoman of the Board of OAO ASB Belarusbank Svetlana Kozhekina and UnionPay International CEO and President Cai Jianbo.

Svetlana Kozhekina noted it was an important stage in advancing cooperation between Belarusbank and China UnionPay. It confirmed a high level of mutual trust and the recognition by the Chinese side of Belarus' leading and oldest commercial bank as the main partner on the Belarusian market.

The document matches the spirit of Belarus-China agreements. The document's implementation will bring more tourists to Belarus. On the whole, the document is designed to help advance contacts between the two countries.

Consul General of Belarus Valery Matsel took part in the signing ceremony.

Merchant acquiring for UnionPay cards is available in most European countries now.

UnionPay International is a daughter enterprise of China UnionPay. The daughter enterprise takes care of emission and acquiring of UnionPay cards outside China. It also takes care of processing and international transactions involving these cards. The company also provides the relevant services to business partners.
