Belarus, Uzbekistan to make confectionery together

MINSK, 12 June (BelTA) – Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to start making confectionery products together. The idea was discussed as Chairman of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of Belarus Mikhail Myasnikovich met with a delegation of the Uzbek parliament led by Nigmatilla Yuldoshev, Chairman of the upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament, BelTA has learned.

Belarus and Uzbekistan intend to advance cooperation in confectionery industry. Licensed production is the idea. The Belarusian confectionery producer Kommunarka is taking part in the project. “I think in the near future Kommunarka Company will launch the licensed production of top-quality sweets with a matching company from Uzbekistan,” explained Mikhail Myasnikovich. Apart from that, Belarus intends to sell more sugar to Uzbekistan.

Manufacturing cooperation prospects were discussed during the meeting. Mikhail Myasnikovich noted that Belarus is ready to set up service centers and assembly enterprises in Uzbekistan. The advancement of cooperation in agriculture, education, information technology, and culture was discussed.

In turn, Nigmatilla Yuldoshev remarked that the two countries will have to radically increase and diversify the bilateral trade. “We are interested in advancing in cooperation in agriculture, textile industry, food industry, pharmaceutics, and mechanical engineering,” he said. The senator said that the two countries should invigorate cooperation in transport and tourism.

In January-March 2018 Belarus-Uzbekistan trade totaled $44.9 million, 226.1% as against the same period of 2017, with Belarus' export at $34.8 million (270.9%) and import at $10.1 million (14.38%). The surplus of merchandise trade amounted to $24.7 million. In 2017 Belarus-Uzbekistan trade totaled $130.9 million, 205.4% as against 2016.

Investment cooperation is on the rise. In Q1 2018 the Belarusian economy received $802,300 in Uzbek investments, 410% as against January-March 2017. Direct investments reached $721,400 (382.9%).

In Uzbekistan there are 23 companies founded by Belarusian corporations and individuals, including two distribution companies wholly owned by Belarusian holding companies: Amkodor Tashkent and MAZ Tashkent. The first enterprise to assemble Belarusian vehicles with a share of Belarusian capital – Amkodor Agrotexmash – was established in Uzbekistan in January 2017. The second one – UzBelAgromash – was cofounded by Bobruiskagromash in April. In Belarus there are 62 companies founded by Uzbek corporations and individuals.
