Belarus urges consistent reduction of restrictions, exceptions in EAEU

KAZAN, 26 May (BelTA) – Belarus hopes that the number of restrictions and exceptions in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will be consistently reduced, Belarusian Prime Minister Andrei Kobyakov said at the session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in Kazan on 26 May, BelTA has learned.

“If we talk about today's agenda, I would like to highlight the discussions on the progress made in the elimination of restrictions and exceptions in the EAEU domestic market. We hope that we will be consistently moving forward, on the basis of the annual plans, towards reducing the list of restrictions and exceptions that hinder the development of the union. Belarus' position on this issue is as constructive as possible,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

The meeting also discussed the guidelines for implementing the digital policy of the Eurasian Economic Union. “The topic is complicated and requires the involvement of a wide range of participants. We believe it is important to focus on the digital transformation of such priority areas as trade, transport, industry, and agriculture,” Andrei Kobyakov said.

Developing a mechanism for product traceability can become one of the first large-scale projects of the joint digital economy in the EAEU. This issue should be further discussed at the next session of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. According to Andrei Kobyakov, the development of the digital economy should help eliminate restrictions in the EAEU, promote all-round cooperation among economic operators in the transit to new technological and economic paradigms.

At its meetings, the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council has repeatedly discussed the need to improve the competitiveness of the agricultural industry through advanced technologies, innovative manufactures. Today, the heads of government revisited the issue. “We took a wider look at the problems of our agricultural industries and agreed to set up a sectoral council of agriculture ministers of the Eurasian Union with a view to intensifying the work on the development of the agricultural industry,” Andrei Kobyakov said.
