Belarus tops CIS in Getting Electricity index of WB's Doing Business report

MINSK, 26 October (BelTA) – Belarus has scored the highest among the CIS member states on the Getting Electricity indicator of the World Bank's Doing Business 2017 report, BelTA learned from the PA Belenergo.

The Doing Business project provides objective measuring of business regulations for local firms in 190 economies. “In terms of the Getting Electricity indicator, Belarus vaulted from the 74th position last year to 24th this year, up 50 notches,” Belenergo said and noted that Belarus is ahead of all other CIS countries in this area.

The report takes into account the reforms carried out during the period from 2 June 2015 till 1 June 2016. The country simplified the procedures for connection to the power supply grid through the introduction of a one-stop shop principle, Belenergo informed.

As was reported, Belarus is ranked 37th in the Doing Business ranking 2017 among 190 states. Last year the country was 50th. According to the latest report, Belarus is highlighted among the ten economies that have achieved the biggest improvements in their business regulations this year.
