MINSK, 20 December (BelTA) – Belarus is set to stop importing electric power in 2018, Belarus' Energy Minister Vladimir Potupchik said at the joint meeting of the Belarusian parliament on 20 December, BelTA has learned.
Belarus has completed talks on the electricity import with Russia. “We have decided not to buy it at the Russian prices and replace it with domestic electricity. We will stop importing electric power in 2018,” Vladimir Potupchik said.
It was planned earlier that Belarus would stop importing electricity in 2020.
As BelTA reported, Belarus plans to commission the first unit of the Belarusian nuclear power plant in 2019. It will be integrated with the country's power grid. A corresponding plan has already been adopted, Vladimir Potupchik added. The document will help increase the reliability of the power grid. Ways are also searched to enhance electricity consumption in Belarus.
