MINSK, 28 February (BelTA) – Belarus will export to Zimbabwe $30 million worth of diamond cutting equipment, BelTA has learned from The Herald newspaper.
The equipment will be supplied to the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company (ZCDC) in the near future. The shipment will be made under a credit agreement via the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe. The equipment will be used to upgrade the country's diamond industry.
“This is one of several loans that Belarus has extended to Zimbabwe to support its manufacturing sector,” The Herald notes. The additional equipment will help cut diamonds from placer and primary deposits. “The agreement has been concluded, and a team of Belarusian specialists will soon come for a site visit to see how to assemble the equipment,” The Herald quoted ZCDC Chief Executive Dr Reggie Nyashanu as saying.
Belarus operates its own capacities to cut natural and artificial diamonds at the Gomel enterprise Kristall which acquires raw material from abroad.
