Belarus to respond to Russian food quality watchdog complaints by 1 May

MINSK, 27 April (BelTA) – By 1 May the Belarusian Agriculture and Food Ministry will respond to the complaints lodged by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) after representatives of the Russian agency inspected several Belarusian enterprises, BelTA learned from Belarusian Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats before the opening ceremony of the 3rd international export forum Dairy Belarus on 27 April.

The official said: “We have agreed that by 20 April Rosselkhoznadzor will send us all the remarks made by the specialists during the inspection. We have received this report and will give answers to all the questions by 1 May. After that we will resume our dialogue with the Russian Agriculture Ministry and Rosselkhoznadzor with a view to lifting restrictions from Belarusian companies. Rosselkhoznadzor specialists will arrive next week to continue inspecting the remaining companies. We insisted on arranging this inspection. I believe that our companies are ready to pass any kind of inspection.”

According to the minister, Rosselkhoznadzor's report contains no major complaints about the quality of Belarusian food. “Our products have once again confirmed they contain no risks for human health. Positive things in the quality assurance process during the incoming inspection of raw materials and the manufacturing process were noted. The report contains remarks, too, but none of them deals with anything that may threaten human health. Our products have once again confirmed their high quality and excellent consumer standards,” stressed Leonid Zayats.

The previous inspection team sent by Rosselkhoznadzor spent nine days in April, examining Belarusian companies. Five groups of Rosselkhoznadzor specialists inspected 18 companies. Restrictions on exporting merchandise to Russia were lifted for two Belarusian companies — Veles Meat and Babushkina Krynka — as a result of the inspection.
