Belarus to place sovereign bonds in Russian and Chinese markets

MINSK, 10 September (BelTA) - Belarus plans to place sovereign bonds in the markets of Russia and China, Belarus' Finance Minister Maksim Yermolovich said in an interview with the STV TV channel, BelTA has learned.

“We are preparing for the issue of sovereign bonds in local markets. These are the markets of China and the Russian Federation. We hope to borrow up to $2 billion in the local markets – Chinese, Russian and others - in the medium term,” Maksim Yermolovich noted.

He noted that there are no plans to float eurobonds next year.

The minister also spoke about Belarus' cooperation with international financial institutions. “Our partnership is expanding. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development has been actively working in Belarus. The Finance Ministry is busy creating all necessary conditions for the operation of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank in Belarus. We plan to become a member of the bank,” said Maksim Yermolovich.
