Belarus to help improve coal mining, coal transportation on Russia's Sakhalin

MOSCOW, 23 November (BelTA) – Belarus will help improve methods of coal mining and coal transportation on Sakhalin Island, Russia. The news was released by the website of the Sakhalin Oblast government and the governor after Sakhalin Oblast Governor Oleg Kozhemyako met with State Secretary of the Union State of Belarus and Russia Grigory Rapota, BelTA has learned.

Member of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of Russia from Sakhalin Oblast Dmitry Mezentsev and Chairman of the Board of Directors of OOO East Mining Company Oleg Misevra also took part in the meeting. Close attention was paid to ways to improve manufacturing ties and the transport system in Sakhalin's mining industry using cutting-edge Belarusian technologies.

After the meeting Dmitry Mezentsev said: “The meeting once again confirmed the strong interest of our Belarusian colleagues in partnership with Sakhalin. Proposals to improve coal mining and transportation methods, which are being prepared in Belarus, can greatly improve the infrastructure of the island's coal company and give a powerful impulse to the development of the coal mining industry in the region as a whole. We are talking about a brand new level of cooperation between the two sides.”

Participants of the meeting also discussed the development of agricultural programs in the area of meat and dairy production with the possible involvement of Belarusian agricultural companies.
