Belarus to enhance control over quality of dairy products delivered to Russia

MINSK, 27 November (BelTA) – Belarus will enhance control over the quality of dairy products delivered to Russia, Vasily Pivovar, Belarus' Deputy Agriculture and Food Minister, Director of the Veterinary and Food Control Department, told BelTA after the meeting with Deputy Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of Russia (Rosselkhoznadzor) Nikolai Vlasov.

“There are no plans to close enterprises. We will just enhance control over the quality of dairy products delivered to Russia,” Vasily Pivovar said.

A single portal of foreign trade activities which envisages the formation of national segments of information processes, including in the field of the application of veterinary and sanitary measures included in the list of joint processes in the EEU, is being created in Belarus. “We decided to equip all oblast laboratories with mass spectrometers,” he added.

Speaking about the fish producing enterprises which were criticized by the Russian side, Vasily Pivovar said that it was decided to reconsider existing issues.

According to the Belarusian official, at the negotiations the Belarusian side voiced its concern about possible attempts to counterfeit products on the territory of Russia so that they look like famous Belarusian brands. Rosselkhoznadzor asked to send an official letter revealing the details of such attempts and confirmed readiness to solve the issue together.

There were statements in the Russian media that in accordance with the information obtained during the inspections of Belarusian enterprises Rosselkhoznadzor informed the Belarusian veterinary service about the need to impose temporary restrictions on the delivery of products of 13 out 15 inspected enterprises (eight fish processing factories and five producers of finished dairy products).
