Belarus to attend World Investment Forum in Geneva

MINSK, 19 October (BelTA) – Belarus will take part in the World Investment Forum of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development in Geneva on 22-26 October, BelTA learned from the National Agency of Investment and Privatization of Belarus.

The forum participants will discuss foreign direct investment to promote sustainable development. The 2018 Forum will consist of about 50 events, including the Global Leaders Investment Summit, the Global Investment Game Changers Summit, ministerial roundtables, conferences, presentations, B2B meetings, and the Investment Village exposition.

Taking part in the forum will be more than 30 countries of Asia, Europe, South and North America. As for big companies, attending the event will be Nestle, Novartis, Contour Global, AMR Industry Alliance, Aviva, Jumia, Siemens, UBS. Organizers expect to see over 5,000 participants.

The Belarusian delegation will be led by head of the investment policy department of the Economy Ministry Elena Perminova. The delegation will comprise representatives of the Finance Ministry, the National Agency of Investment and Privatization, Great Stone Industrial Park Development Company, Minsk FEZ, and Belarus' Permanent Mission to Geneva.

“On 23 October the session Talking Business: Eastern Europe and Central Asia will present prospects for improving the investment climate in Belarus. At the session Special Economic Zones: Challenges and Opportunities on 26 October participants will get familiar with the operation of the Great Stone Industrial Park,” the National Agency of Investment and Privatization said.

The World Investment Forum of the UN Conference on Trade and Development is a biennial event that gathers politicians and representatives of government bodies, private business, international organizations, and scientists. The forum is organized by the UN structures, the World Bank, the WTO, and the World Association of Investment Promotion Agencies (WAIPA). Last year, the event was visited by more than 4,000 entrepreneurs from 160 countries.
