Belarus to attend St Petersburg economic forum

MINSK, 31 May (BelTA) – Belarus' government group led by First Vice Premier Vasily Matyushevsky is expected to take part in the 21st St Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF), BelTA learned from the press service of the Belarusian government.

“Representatives of Belarus' government and business are regular participants in St Petersburg International Economic Forum. This year taking part in the forum will be Belarus' government group led by First Vice Premier Vasily Matyushevsky,” the press service said.

The SPIEF program will include a BRICS session and the B20 international trade and investment forum, the Russian-Iranian forum of company managers, a traditional summit of heads of energy companies, business dialogues Russia-USA, Russia-France, Russia-Latin America, Russia-Switzerland, Russia-Japan, Russia-Africa, and others. Discussions will be held on global economy, the agenda of the Russian economy, reality-changing technologies, human capital as a key vector for development, and talks about the future.

Belarus' national exposition will be organized at the forum on 1-3 June (Expoforum). The exposition will occupy 60 square meters to showcase export-oriented products of the country's leading petrochemical, transport, medical and pharmaceutical companies, and also promising investment projects.

Belneftekhim Concern will field seven organizations: Gomel Chemical Plant, Belshina, Mogilevkhimvolokno, SvetlogorskKhimvolokno, PolotskSteklovolokno, Grodno Azot, Belneftekhim-ROS (the concern's trading company in Russia). The country's pharmaceutical industry will be represented by Belmedpreparaty, Borisov Plant of Medical Preparations, and Minskinterkaps. Scientific and investment projects in the area of cardiology and cardiosurgery will be presented by the national scientific and practical center Cardiology. The country's transport and logistics potential will be demonstrated by the Transport and Communications Ministry. The Belarusian national marketing center will present a set of information, marketing and consulting services to assist Belarusian companies in the search of foreign partners.

St Petersburg International Economic Forum is the Russian and CIS main annual economic summit. The forum was first held in St Petersburg in 1997. Since 2006 the forum has been organized under the patronage of the President of the Russian Federation. Every year St Petersburg International Economic Forum gathers more than 5,000 participants, including heads of state and government, business and government representatives, experts, scientists and public figures from around the world.
