Belarus suggests signing cooperation roadmap to Afghanistan

MINSK, 16 August (BelTA) – Belarus and Afghanistan should sign a cooperation roadmap. Prime Minister of Belarus Andrei Kobyakov made the statement as he met with Chief Executive of Afghanistan Abdullah Abdullah on 16 August, BelTA has learned.

Andrei Kobyakov said: “In order to further improve the efficiency of our cooperation, we suggest doing the following. First of all, we should set up an intergovernmental committee on trade and economic cooperation. This is why I believe it is advisable to work together to determine several avenues of bilateral interaction. We suggest agreeing and signing a roadmap on Belarus-Afghanistan cooperation soon.” The program document will be important not only for the governments of the two countries. It will also become a conceptual guideline for Belarusian and Afghan businessmen.

The Belarusian head of government stated that in the last few years they have managed to bolster Belarusian-Afghan ties in manufacturing sector, agriculture, pharmaceutics, and have managed to start methodical work to expand the legal base of the bilateral relations. Hence, Belarus-Afghanistan trade demonstrates rather good dynamics — 34.3% up in H1 2017 to $12.5 million.
