Belarus, Singapore to share experience of introducing digital technologies in construction

MINSK, 23 January (BelTA) – Belarus and Singapore will share their experience of introducing digital technologies based on building information modeling (BIM) in civil engineering. The plans were discussed when Belarusian Deputy Architecture and Construction Minister Dmitry Semenkevich met with Director General of the outsourcing company Pacific Engineering Solutions Tommy Lim, BelTA has learned.

A delegation has arrived in Belarus from Singapore for the sake of sharing the experience of introducing BIM-powered digital technologies in civil engineering and negotiating further joint actions.

Tommy Lim said: “Today Singapore uses only digital documents. We get all the design specifications and estimates only as BIM documents. The customer (the developer) has to upload a package of documents to a dedicated website, which software verifies the documents are compliant with the standards. As a result, we receive a protocol with links to all the necessary regulatory documents.”

Tommy Lim stated that Singaporean specialists are ready to work with Belarus in this field. The Belarusian side expressed interest in cooperation and suggested concrete steps. Dmitry Semenkevich said: “Your experience is now internationally recognized. We are undoubtedly interested in it. We would like to see how your system works in practice. We would like to develop software adapted to our country's needs together with Singaporean specialists.”

An agreement was reached that specialists from Singapore will visit Belarus once again in order to study the existing civil engineering procedures and how they are performed. A Belarusian delegation is expected to visit Singapore in May 2017.

Pacific Engineering Solutions Pte Ltd is an outsourcing company of the Building Construction Authority (a counterpart of the Architecture and Construction Ministry in Singapore). The company takes care of introduction and maintenance of BIM-powered digital technologies in civil engineering as part of digital government routines.

Building information modeling (BIM) is an approach to erecting, fitting, operating, and repairing buildings with a focus on collecting and processing all the architectural, design, technological, economic and other kinds of information about the building as a single digital entity.
