MINSK, 22 September (BelTA) – Belarus has been working hard to prevent the attempts to smuggle embargoed goods into Russia, Yuri Senko, Chairman of the State Customs Committee of Belarus, told the media, BelTA has learned
"We continue to fight off attempts to smuggle embargoed goods into Russia from Belarus. About 8,000 tonnes of goods were seized in January-August 2017," Yuri Senko said. "Since the time Russia imposed the embargo about 21,000 tonnes of Russia-bound goods have been seized in Belarus and then forfeited by the state. The Russian Federal Customs Service reported that they have confiscated about 7,000 tonnes of goods. We continue this work," the chairman said.
"Belarusian customs officers have checked more than 2,300,000 vehicles heading from Western Europe with a view to preventing the import of embargoed goods to Russia. "About 4,700 vehicles were returned to the countries of Western Europe over the noncompliance of shipping documents with the criteria applied to the movement of goods of the embargoed group," Yuri Senko said.
"That way we protect Russia in part of the ban imposed by the Russian government on food imports," he added.
