Belarus says may retaliate over Russia's non-recognition of EAEU certificates

MINSK, 17 May (BelTA) – Belarus does not exclude applying measures in response to the decision by the Russia Federal Customs Service on the non-recognition of conformity assessment certificates issued in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), Chairman of the Belarusian State Customs Committee Yuri Senko told the media on 17 May, BelTA has learned.

“If such need arises, we will consider retaliatory measures. No such decision has been taken yet,” Yuri Senko said.

In his words, the State Customs Committee of Belarus has sent a letter to the Federal Customs Services of Russia, in which it expressed concerns regarding the current situation. The committee also sent a letter to the head of the Eurasian Economic Commission asking to consider the issue at the supranational level. “These issues have not been addressed yet. Our experts are taking part in the discussions. We hope they will be settled in the neat future,” Yuri Senko said.

As BelTA reported earlier, the Federal Customs Service of Russia does not accept documents on the assessment of the conformity of products with the unified requirements of the Customs Union, issued and registered in Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, when these products cross the customs border of Russia.
