Belarus, Russia's Pskov Oblast enjoy growth in mutual trade

MINSK, 17 November (BelTA) – Belarus and Pskov Oblast demonstrated a considerable growth in the mutual trade in a number of positions. Cooperation prospects in various areas were discussed at the meeting of the Belarusian delegation led by Vice Premier Anatoly Kalinin with Pskov Oblast Governor Andrei Turchak, spokeswoman for the Belarusian Architecture and Construction Ministry Yevgeniya Filimonova told BelTA.

In her words, the meeting highlighted a wide range of issues, including the implementation of joint construction projects, supplies of freight, passenger and agricultural vehicles, and industrial cooperation.

Commenting on the results of the joint work, Andrei Turchak stated that the trade between Belarus and Pskov Oblast increased in a number of positions. The areas demonstrating an upward trend include agriculture and the sector of building materials. “This is an example of our quality cooperation, which should serve as a basis for the development of other sectors,” Andrei Turchak stressed.

A number of instructions were elaborated at the end of the meeting for the Belarusian and Russian agencies and companies. Their execution will be monitored by the Pskov Oblast Governor and the Vice Premier of Belarus. Among the instructions are the plans to look into a possible launch of flights between Pskov Oblast and Belarus.

In January-September 2016 the trade between Belarus and Pskov Oblast totaled $73.7 million, up 4.3% from the same period last year. The export exceeded $56 million and posted a 26% increase. The import reached $17.5 million, reducing by 32.8%. Belarus posted a $38.7 million surplus.
