Belarus, Russia's Oryol Oblast to step up cooperation in industry, agriculture

MOSCOW, 30 January (BelTA) - Belarus and Russia's Oryol Oblast will expand cooperation in industry, agriculture and step up deliveries of Belarusian equipment, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Belarus to Russia Igor Petrishenko told the media following the negotiations with acting Governor of Oryol Oblast Andrei Klychkov in Moscow on 30 January, BelTA has learned.

The diplomat noted that Belarus and Oryol Oblast have a solid legal framework of cooperation, which includes the basic agreement and also a three-year program. It reflects all areas of cooperation: industry, agriculture, construction, social services, science, culture.

Belarus and Oryol Oblast has been actively developing cooperation in agriculture. “Oryol Oblast possesses considerable potential in terms of experimental institutes which are engaged in the breeding of new varieties of plants and seeds,” Igor Petrishenko said. “Close interaction has been established with the Belarusian agrarian institutions, research centers on agriculture and mechanization. We have set new goals, particularly in cattle breeding,” the diplomat informed.

The export of Belarusian agricultural equipment to Oryol Oblast has been on the rise. During the negotiations the parties discussed a wide range of joint projects in road building, construction of various facilities in the towns and villages of Oryol Oblast, supplies of Belarusian road-building machinery.

The ambassador said that Oryol Oblast is interested in Belarusian new utilities vechiles and buses.

“We also exchanged the views on cooperation in IT,” the ambassador added.

In January-November of 2017 the trade between Belarus and Russia's Oryol Oblast amounted to $93.2 million, up by 36.7% over the same period a year prior. Belarusian exports reached $49.6 million (up by 30.5%), imports came at $43.6 million (an increase of 44.4%).
