Belarus, Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast to step up lift assembly operation

MINSK, 20 April (BelTA) – Belarus and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast intend to step up the operation of OOO NizhegorodLiftmash. The relevant arrangements were discussed as Belarusian Deputy Industry Minister Alexander Ogorodnikov met with Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Acting Industry, Trade, and Entrepreneurship Minister Igor Sazonov on 20 April, BelTA has learned.

The sides discussed the delivery of components to Belarusian and Russian mechanical engineering companies as part of manufacturing cooperation schemes, including Belarusian automobile components for Russian GAZ Group, Minsk Motor Plant engines for automobile engineering companies in Nizhny Novgorod Oblast. The sides also discussed the development of the lift assembly joint venture NizhegorodLiftmash.

Instructions were given to raise the trade turnover to $1 billion as a result of negotiations between Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko and Nizhny Novgorod Oblast Governor Valery Shantsev on 20 April. “I think we will make a considerable contribution to achieving that goal. Our companies have maintained a trustful dialogue for many years. Nizhny Novgorod Oblast is one of the main trade partners of the Belarusian Industry Ministry,” stressed Alexander Ogorodnikov.

In January-February 2017 trade between Belarusian industrial enterprises and Russia's Nizhny Novgorod Oblast totaled $10.5 million, 40% up from the same period of last year. The Belarusian enterprises exported $8.1 million worth of merchandise. Engines made by Minsk Motor Plant and products of the automobile component holding company Automotive Components (Avtokomponenty) represented the bulk of the export.
