Belarus, Russia to sign food balance sheets for 2019 in November

MOSCOW, 19 September (BelTA) – Belarus and Russia will sign food balance sheets for 2019 in November. The agreement was reached at the meeting between Belarus' Agriculture and Food Minister Leonid Zayats and Russia's Minister of Agriculture Dmitry Patrushev in Moscow on 18 September, BelTA learned from the website of the Russian Ministry of Agriculture.

“An agreement was reached that in November 2018 the parties will sign the Union State forecast balances sheets on dairy and meat supplies in 2019, hold a regular board meeting of the agrarian ministries of Russia and Belarus in Q1 2019 and continue constructive cooperation aimed at increasing the turnover of agricultural products between the two countries,” the ministry said.

According to Dmitry Patrushev, Belarus is Russia's most important trading partner and the largest supplier to the Russian market in a number of areas. “For the past several years the trade in agricultural products and food between the two countries has been demonstrating a positive trend. In 2017, the mutual trade increased by 20% to reach almost $5 billion. As for dairy products, Belarus accounts for 84% in Russian dairy imports. The countries, however, still need to take additional steps in ensuring free access and security of supplies. The countries have already made progress in the matter and I am confident that we will be able to achieve even better results,” Dmitry Patrushev was cited as saying.

Leonid Zayats and Dmitry Patrushev attached special attention to the implementation of the roadmap to remove mutual restrictions in the supply of livestock products. “As a result of the joint efforts, eight Belarusian enterprises can supply dairy products to Russia today. Temporary restrictions on the access of whey of two Belarusian enterprises to Russia were abolished on 13 August. The Russian side is also considering the possibility of expanding the roadmap with a list of enterprises interested in selling dairy and meat products,” the Russian Ministry of Agriculture said.

Attending the ministers' meeting was also State Secretary of the Union State Grigory Rapota.
